Check for eSIM from the dial pad.

About 30 seconds

An EID identifies the embedded SIM chip. Seeing one is a useful hardware check; you still need to confirm the model, installation rules and carrier lock.

Look for “EID”A 32-digit identifier
  1. 1

    Open the built-in Phone app

Use the keypad you normally use to dial a phone number.

  2. 2

    Enter *#06#

On many phones, device information appears as you finish entering the code. You normally don’t need to place a call.

  3. 3

    Look specifically for EID

An IMEI, or two IMEIs, does not by itself confirm eSIM support. Look for the label EID.

No EID, or the code didn’t work?

That is not a definitive “no”. Some dialers do not show it. Check Settings and the Add eSIM option using the guide below, then compare your exact model.

Keep your EID and IMEI private. This page does not ask you to upload either number.

Find the model number in Settings.

No box needed

The marketing name identifies the phone family. The model number identifies its hardware version. You’ll want both.

iPhone

Settings → General → About
  1. Find Model Name, such as iPhone 15.
  2. Tap Model Number. If it starts with M, N, F or P, tap again to show the hardware code starting with A.
  3. Search that A-number in the directory above.

On the same screen, scroll to EID. Then check Carrier Lock for “No SIM restrictions”. Also look in Settings → Cellular / Mobile Service for Add eSIM.

Samsung Galaxy

Settings → About phone
  1. Find the phone name and Model number, usually starting with SM-.
  2. Keep the full suffix, such as SM-S928B. It helps distinguish regional hardware.
  3. Search the code above. A /DS suffix may appear on dual-SIM variants.

For EID, check About phone → Status information. For installation, check Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. Menu wording can vary.

Google Pixel

Settings → About phone → Model
  1. Find the Pixel model name under About phone.
  2. Open Model or Model & hardware to see the hardware identifier, often a short code starting with G.
  3. Search the model name or code in the directory above.

For EID, check About phone → SIM status. Under Settings → Network & internet → SIMs, look for Add SIM / Set up an eSIM / Download a SIM instead, depending on Android version.

HUAWEI & HONOR

Settings → About phone
  1. Find Model or Model number and keep the full hardware code, such as SGU-AL10 or BKQ-N49.
  2. On HONOR, look for EID on the About phone screen. On HUAWEI, check the eSIM information in SIM management or search Settings for EID.
  3. Check Mobile network → SIM management for an eSIM option. Names vary between EMUI, HarmonyOS and MagicOS.

Confirm whether your phone is a mainland or international version. Domestic eSIM capability, SkyTone roaming and acceptance of a third-party travel profile are separate checks.

vivo

Settings → About phone
  1. Record the full Model number, normally starting with V.
  2. Also record RAM and storage. For the mainland X500 Pro, vivo advertises eSIM only for the 12GB + 1TB configuration.
  3. Search Settings for eSIM or EID, and check your mobile-network or SIM settings for an option to add an eSIM. Menu wording varies by software and region.

Match the sales region as well as the model. The built-in Global Internet roaming service does not establish that an independent travel eSIM can be installed.

Other Android phones

Settings → About phone / About device
  1. Look for Model, Model number or Regulatory labels.
  2. Record the full hardware code and where the phone was originally sold.
  3. Compare the code with your manufacturer’s specifications.

Use Settings search for EID or eSIM. Check SIM settings for an option to add or download an eSIM. Having two physical SIM slots does not settle the question.

Check 03 · before purchase

Make sure your phone is unlocked.

On iPhone, open Settings → General → About. Carrier Lock: No SIM restrictions means the phone is unlocked. On Android, ask your original carrier if the device can use another provider’s eSIM; there is no single universal menu.

A few details worth checking

Regional rules & common questions.

What about an iPhone purchased in mainland China?

Many mainland China iPhone variants do not support travel eSIM. Some newer mainland models have eSIM hardware but have special installation rules: Apple says eSIMs from non-mainland carriers cannot be installed while the phone is located in mainland China. Check the exact A-number and Apple’s current travel guidance before purchase.

What about Hong Kong or Macao iPhones?

Some models use two physical nano-SIMs; others support eSIM. The exceptions differ by generation. Search the A-number and check the regional note rather than applying one rule to every Hong Kong or Macao iPhone.

Apple: two nano-SIM variants
Does domestic eSIM support on HUAWEI or vivo guarantee travel eSIM support?

No. A mainland model advertised for Chinese operators may have different installation rules or supported profiles. Some vivo configurations also differ by RAM and storage. The new mainland entries in this directory ask for a travel-profile check before purchase. Built-in roaming services such as HUAWEI SkyTone or vivo Global Internet are separate products and do not prove that a third-party QR profile is supported.

Do these restrictions apply to all HONOR, HUAWEI or vivo phones?

No. The brand and where you bought the phone are not enough to identify the hardware version. International variants can support eSIM while same-name mainland variants differ. HONOR specifically notes country-of-origin exceptions; match the full model code and confirm the eSIM menu.

Does an EID guarantee my travel eSIM will work?

No. EID is an identifier for the eSIM hardware. Your regional version, carrier lock, firmware, installation location and the plan’s requirements still matter. An IMEI or dual IMEIs alone also do not prove eSIM support.

Why aren’t older Pixels or every Android brand listed?

This is a curated directory. Pixel 3 and 3a have country and carrier exceptions; Pixel 2 eSIM works only on Google Fi, and the original 2016 Pixel has no eSIM support. For an unlisted phone, use the manufacturer’s exact-model guidance and contact us before purchase.

Can I use an eSIM watch or a Wi-Fi-only tablet?

Do not assume a phone travel plan works on a watch. Wearables often need a specific carrier service. Wi-Fi-only tablets do not have cellular eSIM hardware. For a cellular tablet, confirm its exact model and the plan requirements with us.
